Nelson Arion Glee Union Male Voice Choir

The Arion Choir is currently seeking male voices.  Whatever your age, experience or ability, we are willing to help you get started. Why not come to one of our rehearsals. These are held every Monday between 7.30pm and 9.30pm at Higherford Methodist Church, Gisburn Road, Barrowford. For more details speak to Tony Wilson on 01282 459875. There is no obligation and there is nothing to lose.  In fact there is everything to gain. Make new friends enjoy the experience and perhaps benefit on a regular basis from what is probably the finest singing/musical lesson for miles around. To be a member of a Male Voice Choir is adjudged to be the best club a man can belong to.  It offers the opportunity to entertain, to receive rapturous applause, calls for encores and occasionally standing ovations.  It also gives the opportunity to sing in all sorts of venues be it theatres, halls and churches both near and far.  How lucky we all are!

Help us to maintain the long tradition of Male Voice singing.

Go on give Tony Wilson a call.

History of the Arion Glee Union Choir

The choir was formed in 1887. A small group of young men got together to make music for their own pleasure and for the pleasure of others.  That tradition has continued to this day. A host of men regularly gather for rehearsal in Barrowford (Lancashire), which includes some ‘foreigners’ from across the border in Yorkshire!

Over many, many years the unique sound from the Arion Choir has been widely recognised by people like Sir Thomas Armstrong, who for many years was a most respected adjudicator of Choral Music.

It could be said that the choir hit one of its peaks during and after the 1980’s. The choir won many Festivals and Competitions, which included the Llangollen International Eisteddfod (a record 5 times), the BBC Radio Choir of the year Competition, The Elgar Trophy and many more.  The choir has also appeared at the Royal Albert Hall and the Festival Hall in London, visited Germany, Canada, Budapest and Ireland and has made very recent appearances at the prestigious Bridgewater Hall – Manchester.
